Driving changes in waste reduction and management
1. Reduce the amount of the plastic entering St Helena’s IUCN Cat Vl MPA by:
a. Developing awareness programes that drive behaviour change in the community.
b. Enabling Saints to reduce their use of single-use plastics e.g through provision of reusable shopping bags through retailers.
c. Establishing commercial recycling of high value waste streams.
2. Assess and reduce the amount and types of pollution (e.g. sewage and general marine litter) entering St Helena,s ICUN Cat Vl MPA by:
a. Monitoring marine debris through beach and dive cleans, sending the data to international marine debris campaigns.
b. Working with SHG to asses all availble routing and sewage treatment options.
c. Pushing for regular public consultations.
d. Reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments, in line with IUCN guidelines.
