What is culture?

There are a number of definitions, but here we, the Trust mean those aspects of peoples’ lives on the island that are especially “Saint” and result from the mix of peoples and cultures coming here over the centuries and their adaptation to life on St Helena.

It can refer to buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts. Traditions, entertainment, dress, celebrations, music and story-telling also forms part of culture. It is simply our attempt to capture and interpret that which is uniquely Saint and uniquely of Saint Helena.
